History of Tolka Rovers Bowls Section
The bowling section of Tolka Rovers was started in November 1983 when a resident
in the area, Eamonn Doogue, was anxious to join a bowling club and in the
absence of same, approached Tolka Rovers who agreed to give two afternoons a
week to the Bowling Section. We owe a debt of gratitude to St. Josephs of East
Wall two of whose members assisted us to get the club up and running.
Since those early days in 1983, the Club has gone from strength to strength and
we now have a membership of over 70 and have 6 mats with all the appropriate
equipment.
Our secretary Maeve Ryan was instrumental in organising the Dublin Afternoon
Indoor Bowling League in 1985 and our team have won all major honours in the
League, the most recent being The Joe Grant Cup for the Top 4 in the 1st
Division. At present, we have five teams in various divisions of the League.
We also run our own domestic competitions during the season and take part in
many tournaments organised by other clubs.
